Hello everyone,
first of all my compliments for the content you have created and the incredible support you are providing to all us foreign dentists who are considering having their credentials recognized in the USA to work there. In short, let me tell you about my academic journey: I earned a Master’s degree (5 years full time) in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics in Italy with the highest honors – Completed a Postgraduate Program in Dental Implantology at New York University (2 years full time) – Holding a Ph.D. in Implantology from the Medical University of Havana, Cuba. I am currently an Adjunct Professor in Periodontology and Scientific Director of the Master program in Oral Surgery at the University of Foggia, Italy. I am author of several international publications in the field of Oral Surgery and Implantology. I was wondering if my 2 years at NYU could be considered as residency and therefore exempt me from the training period required for foreign dentists undergoing the Advanced Standing Program. I’d like to get also a coaching session with Dr. Alyssa to better understand all the possibilities.
Thanks again for your support.

Hi, I am a recently graduated dentist from Turkey. My husband has a greencard; my dental school GPA is 2.94 but it is not considered low in Turkey. I would like to do AEGD in Maryland/Virginia/D.C. or specialty programs in Texas. How should I add some clinical experience in my application folder. What should I do to increase my chances to get accepted. Are there any ways to pass GPA requirements (i.e. minimum 3.0 GPA); and do you have any experience with Turkish dentist before? If you answer it I would really appreciate it.

Hi Ayse! Thanks for reaching us about this. I’d recommend doing a coaching session with Dr. Alyssa so she can get a comprehensive understanding of your candidacy and recommend the best way going forward. It is difficult to give advice through messages like this because profile-related suggestions should come with full knowledge of your background. This will be a paid session, and you can sign up for that here
Hi I finished my DDS in China and doing my masters degree in Harvard now. I am considering to apply for dental school next year. My dream school is University of Pennsylvania but some people told me Upenn PASS program don’t accept Chinese. Is it true? Do you have any data point that any Chinese got accepted in this program?
HI My GPA is 3.88 , i did my Undergrad from India. I hold a Masters in Endodontics and a Royal college of Surgeons Edinburgh diploma in endodontics. currently practicing in the middle east, my specific interest is in Univ of Connecticut AEGD two years course, and in Rochesters AEGD course. i need help in preparing the documentation for these two programs
My gpa is 2.1 die to some circumstances lived, how can I overcome that, i have tried to apply to an oral health sciences master in umich, but they don’t accept gpa’s less than 3. What do I do?
Do I quit dentistry because of that low gpa!
Hi Hana!Your GPA is not the only factor that the admissions committee would consider. They will also take a look at your experience, your application documents, and other things. With that being said, it might be hard for you to get into a program but it is NOT impossible.
I am not sure if an Orofacial Pain resident (2 Years CODA) can practice as a general dentist in the state of Washington. I read all the details offered but was not able to understand it in yes or no. I did my dental school BDS from India and was hoping to apply in residency program this year.

Hi Jasoos! As an international dentist, you may only be eligible to apply for dental licensure to practice in the US if you graduate from an accredited dental school. we do have a guide article where you can find more information on the bigger picture of the process, if you’d be interested in it, here’s the link
I am a current 4th year dental student studying in Spain. It is an English dentistry course. I am very overwhelmed by the process on how to practice in the United States. I have one more year left until i graduate (June 2024). Would love some guidance on what to do

Hi IDC! Does a Master in General Psychology from a USA School help with a 2.7 GPA or is it just a Master of public health the one that helps with the application? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hi Jorge! It’s a good idea to have either of them. However, the competitiveness of your overall candidacy depends on all the other factors going on in your experience, as well as how you put it together in the form of an application.

My GPA is 3.1 but have a lot of extra curricular activities and volunteering experience. Do I stand a chance in getting accepted in the first CAAPID cycle?
Hi Parishi! Many schools have higher standards and will ask for a minimum of 2.5 or 3 to apply as anything less than a GPA of 3 is considered poor to mediocre.

seeking help to get in dental school. I have very low gpa 2.34 , Currently i am working as an orthodontist in KUWAIT. I did post graduation in orthodontics and I publication and research. I cleared part 1 in 2015 and preparing for part 2 … Is it possible to get in dental school with such a low gpa? Because most of the people told me that its not possible at all. I am waiting for your reply. Thank you
It’s admittedly on the lower of as far as GPAs go. However, a few things to consider: You have a a post-graduate degree – that can help offset the lower GPA in how you come across as a candidate. Also, if you feel like your program was particularly rigorous and you still ranked decently in your class even with the GPA at a 2.34, then that could also help improve the way you appear. Overall, yes, we’ve seen candidate with even lower GPAs than you make it in. Acceptance isn’t based upon just 1 aspect of your candidacy, but the entire candidacy is considered. Hope this helps!
